Summary: The round, deep red roots are tender, delicious and sweet and can be served at all stages of growth and they store well. The young leaves make delicious greens. Beets are very easy to grow and prefer cool weather, though they tolerate a wide range of conditions.
When and where to plant: Select sunny, well drained location and sow seed as soon as the ground can be worked. Repeat at 3 week intervals until late summer. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Great in containers and sunny flower beds. Firm soil over seed and keep moist.
Care: Keep soil moist, weed free, and apply vegetable food every 4 weeks.
Harvesting: Pull individual plants when roots are about 2 in. / 5 cm. across.
